History and nature in Ferrara, Comacchio and Po Delta Park
Join us for a unique tour among nature and history in northern Italy! Start the journey by visiting the great Renaissance capital of Ferrara, which rises on the banks of the Po di Volano River, in the southern plain of Emilia Romagna region. Ferrara and its Po Delta Park are included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites, for being a unique urban and naturalistic landscape. Discover the city of the House of Este, and its symbolic monument, the Este Castle – former residence of the Dukes of Este – who made an incredible and profound mark on the history of Ferrara. The historic city center can be enjoyed by walking through its picturesque medieval streets in a perfect combination with the Renaissance walls.
The route goes across Comacchio, also named “Little Venice”, which conserves intact the characteristics of a lagoon city, traversed by canals and covered with bridges that are reminiscent of “La Serenissima”. These bridges once connected the thirteen islets on which the town was built and are authentic monuments. Comacchio reached its greatest splendor during the Renaissance period and its main symbols include the bridge “Trepponti”, built around 1638. Comacchio is also the capital city of eel as You can see by visiting the important old pickling ” Marinated Fish Factory”, the place where it was the entire production cycle of the eels; it is an experience to understand the everyday life in the past.
The journey continues toward the Po Delta Park, which is the largest national extension of protected wetlands and covers an area of 54.000 hectares between the provinces of Ferrara and Ravenna. Declared to be a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, this land includes many natural environments and is the undisputed domain of rich birdlife, both sedentary and migratory, offering a privileged setting for walks along the banks, excursions by boat and bird watching.
Enjoy Your 4×4 excursion off-road accompanied by an expert driver-guide to discover the Po Delta Park in a unique way.
